One year down...........
A little flashback reference there. I appreciated it at least.
So I am halfway through my second to last week here at work. And maybe more importantly, today is my anniversary. On June 20 last year, I landed in Germany for the first time and got picked up by Steffi in Cologne. We walked around Aachen and then that night I watched a Confederation Cup game in Pontstrasse. And then began the beignning of my vaca.
Although it's now impossible to think of how drastically everything has changed (I just can't relate anymore) some things haven't changed at all. I'm still watching soccer (this time a World Cup game) and will be travling to Berlin in a few weeks. Then off to Paris. Basically, retracing all my steps.
Work is coming along well and I should be ready to successfully complete my project. I feel good because this is the first time in my life (including MIT) where my work is worth anything to anyone. I really have the impression that everything that I have done will actually be read and appreciated by my prof. and the other students working on my project. Plus, today I found out that I paper I wrote got accepted to a conference in biomed eng. So my foot is in the door in the world outside of my lab.
It's great being in Germany during the World Cup. Everyday there are a minimum of 3 games and a celebration somewhere, even here in Aachen, when someone wins. Of course, Germany is well represented and the Brazilians go nuts. Last week, I went out with some of my friends to cheer on the US against Italy. I was one of maybe three americans surrounded by at least a hundred italians. Face painted with American flag borrowed from a friend I was the only one standing during the national anthemn. Funny and I have good pics. :)
Ok, got to go. Keeping it short and sweet. See you all soon.
